Kale, spinach & banana smoothie

I’ve really been enjoying souper-food smoothies this summer.  People usually have these for breakfast but there is no way I’m getting a food processor out first thing in the morning.  I usually drink these in the early evening while souper-baby is eating her dinner.  They make me feel really clean, healthy and energetic but, if I’m honest, the rest of the family are never really that interested.  Until I made this combination, that is!  Souper nutritious and very yummy.  I was actually pretty  disappointed as I had to share it….

It uses frozen banana slices, which you should, of course, have in your freezer at all times in case there is an emergency and you need this or this.

These quantities will make 2 large glasses.

2 large handfuls of kale

1 large handful of spinach

1 frozen banana (sliced before freezing)

2 tsp cinnamon

1 cup water


Put the kale in a blender with a cup of water and blend thoroughly.  It might need a bit of shaking/scraping down but it will suddenly change from a blender full of curly kale to a pool of green liquid in the bottom.

Add the spinach and blend again, then add the frozen banana and cinnamon and blend one last time.  Serve immediately.

Souper-baby decided it looked rather tasty and ended up drinking a huge glass.  Pretty good work for a 14 month old.  I took the baby-led weaning route with her and it has worked really well for us, she eats better than many grown-ups.  I’ll post more about it soon if anyone is interested – let me know in the comments!
